BMW driveshaft recall

They'll not like that, driveshaft replacement is a nice earner for BMW.

They have reluctor rings inset into them which can rot just like the one on the hubs of Octy's. £1500 to replace though

I've just read that BMW are dropping the carbon composite propshaft from the M3/4 and going to steel so they can fit some sort of emissions device (probably a bigger catalyst :D) to the exhaust system. I am guessing that a steel shaft could be made thinner (and cheaper) to give more room, even if it weighs a little more? I don't know if that also removes a nice little earner from Beemer :D

The only one I can think of is the introduction of the GPF (DPF for petrol engines) which doesn’t seem to have a specific adoption date yet.   I imagine a regen for one of those would involve even higher temps which might affect the carbon fibre more than steel ....and the ‘tunnel’ makes isolation difficult too.

I think that is the reason the M3 is being discontinued soon as it's the smaller seller of the two siblings. The M4 is getting the update.

I’d be getting in quick.

A GPF won’t be ‘advertised’ as a feature, that’s for sure......and the salesman will probably be legitimately ‘in the dark’ if asked.

(I’ll bet a stell retrofit won’t work either.........$£€)

I have just finished the running in period and as it was dry and warm on the deserted motorway, I 'nailed it' at 60 in third (km/h of course) and the traction control light flashed all the way to 100!

Im positively shocked. :)

I was a little surprised. Got to try the MDM button next, then the full fat, hedge backwards experience, that is fully disabled everything.

Tut tut, just another example of young ones out of control .    Dear me!   I don’t know!:dull::tongueout:

I think this one is my last fling with silly cars. I'm getting too old, the cars are getting too fast and they cost a ruddy fortune. I'm going to take up knitting and sitting beside the guillotine...
