lower bumper grill help

Featured Replies

Now my airconditioning is up and working thanks to a new condensor I'm wanting to fit some mesh to the bottom bumper grill. It would be possible to do this while on the car but i could do a better job and fit if i could remove it. However, no amount of swearing/pulling/levering seems to work. Is there a screw hidden somewhere holding it in or is it just clipped on? The corner ones pull out no bother. The car is a vrs.

It is held on by plastic tabs, if you can't feel for them and spread them outwards slightly then just take a good hold of the grille and pull firmly, it will pop off.

Where are the tabs? I can unclip two either side but can't see any others. And the slats are bending when pulling so trying not to break them.

You can buy an oem plastic grille that is attached onto the condenser. I got mine from a vw dealer. I don't remember the part no but I'm sure it wasp Silver in here who gave it to me.

Just found this this from an old thread

 Part Number:- S1K0820746

 Grill     £6.41 + Vat

                        S3D0867646  Plastic Clips   ( Ordered 8 )  0.28p + Vat

im sure you drop the S of the part numbers if not buying from a Skoda dealer.

Thanks a lot for that. I'll ring TPS this morning and post back.

Didn't order the oem condensor grill i managed to get the lower grill off and fit the mesh. There is indeed 6 clips that run along the length of the grill top and bottom. I was going to take a picture but it's back on the car now. I just pulled it off but all 6 clips along the top split so had to glue those back together. The best way i think to remove it without damage would be to slide a thin wide tool in the gap between grill and bumper then push down on the tabs to release from bumper.

It was tight to get out Mike shame the top clips all split, although it's clipped back in just as good. Mesh all cable tied on so I'm happy the condensor stands half a chance!! Hardly know it's there tbh. I looked into the oem protector but my thoughts were the same it didn't look up to much and looked like it involved pushing clips into the condensor fins. After what that's just cost me err no thanks!!

Waste of time - it clips directly to the condenser, has big holes and isn't going to stop stones getting through the grille in the bumper. A sheet of mesh in the bumper stops anything getting anywhere near the condenser.

I was given a genuine Skoda protector, but decided not to use it when I saw how it was fitted.

As far as the grille goes, it is in tight - just get hold of it and PULL, and it will come out - honestly! I had a hell of a job taking mine out to retrofit front fogs.

The plastic protector is not there to protect the fins of the condenser but the bars. The fins are only there to aid the cooling so it doesn't matter if they get a beating or two. I thought about putting the mesh on the grille, then thought about the damage that would be done by deep snow in the winter time by not getting allowed to pass through ie ripping the grille out and damaging the bumper.
