Squeeky steering column ;-(

Featured Replies

Hi all,

just the other day my steering wheel started to squeek( 1.8t) ( no not mice related) when moving either left or right. Only seems to be a small angle either left or right from straight ahead thats affected and its driving me mad as a result.

As I'am considering buying the car ( previously my company car) I was wondering if this is:

a. curable

b. sign of a bigger problem

c. cover under warranty( car 3 years old , 58k).

any idea's

Dry support or something caught in the mechanism?

Mine did the same, dealer put grease back on rake adjuster - Sorted.

hi Antvrs & Kentish,

Just thought I'd let you know how I got on . Dropped the car into the garage last week and they identified an Airbag collar as causing the problem and they said they had greased/oiled various other parts as well.

anyway collected car on thursday and yesterday (Sunday) the problem has come back only this time it's only when you are turning left.

Ah well 50% fixed booked back in again this week.

regards brendan

I have a similar problem with mine but it's more or a 'belt' rubbing noise when you turn the steering wheel?

I am not that fussed about it as my dashboard creaks with ever bend and corner so you only hear it when parking!!

Me too!

Mines been squeaky for last 6 months. Car now 3 years and 50k+ . Couldn't be bothered to tell dealer. Apparently not an uncommon thing with VWs.

Hopefully new car soon.:)
