Timing belt change

Featured Replies

My car is coming up for 5 years old with 24,000 miles on the clock and my question is when do I need to change the timing belt, any help would be much appreciated.

The mk2 vRS is chain driven not belt driven.

theres a hell of a lot of topics on this matter which the search function should pop up if you put it in.

willie,

still low mileage, but watch for any drop in the next year of coolant, just even a small amount.

You might be lucky & not have any drop,

but if you do it can be an indication of needing the Water Pump replaced, this has the magnetic clutch for the supercharger.

If you needed it doing you are looking around £400-450 all in, New Parts, Coolant, 2 belts.

Cheers for that George I've not noticed any coolant loss yet only excess oil use over the last year, getting quite expensive in purchasing oil.

Cheers

Willie

If still using 5w 30 Full Synthetic Long Life oil, VW504 00 or the Dealership is putting that in at services change to 5W 40 FS VW502 00.

(From ASDA will do if right spec, or get COMMA oil from the Motor Factors.)

I feel for you no good roads for a blast and no super unleaded.....

Be your way soon then heading to Mull of Kintyre.  Slowly.
