So I'm trying to sort the errors in the ABS/steering, and am having difficulty running the G85 adaptation in module 003. I can connect to the ABS, enter the security code, bring up block 060 in basic settings and start the procedure, after a short while VCDS appears to lose connection to the ABS and I get ERROR block not available (or words to that effect, I forgot to screen shot it). The same thing happens if I just leave VCDS in a measuring block in the ABS module, it sits there displaying a readout for a short while and then ERROR.

 

If I go in to any other module I can happily watch the measuring blocks for minutes without errors.

 

If I bring up a measuring block with the G85 sensor in the ABS module, its 0deg no matter what. If I go in to 044 - steering assist I can see values from the G85 sensor as I turn the wheel.

Well progress of sorts, I lifted it up and went for a 'drive' of 2miles, then started turning the wheel lock to lock and the ABS and G85 faults have disappeared completely. Obviously trying to do it on my drive wasn't enough.

 

Just this one left now :(

Torque values show up in live data / measuring blocks. Stumped :( Ross Tech webpage doesn't list this exact error with the 00563 / 002 :(

Well, just in case anyone Googles and finds this... I ended up replacing the rack with a used one. Possibly the rack had been damaged during the collision.

I disabled the sensor in Steering Assist and this one has gone. Why it was enabled I don't know, as the rack I replaced was a V3 and I replaced it with a V3, both should be using the sensor on the rack. PAS now all working as it should (to be fair it felt like it did before!), but crucially, no errors or warning lights.

 

Must admit I was disappointed in the response I got on the Ross Tech forum - essentially a few guys saying check the fluid (its an electronic rack...) and another repeatedly telling me to RTFM (or their variant of it... read the workshop repair manual/bently manual which I don't have).
