Airbags

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a constant airbag warning light on dash which is on all the time.

I've check manual and it shows two on and off switches in the glove box.

I can only see one airbag on/off switch, top left corner in my glovebox and haven't turned anything off.

Could it be a fuse ?

Thanks.

Maybe a fuse or try unpluging the yellow plug underneath the driver and passenger seat (disconnect the battery and leave for 15-30 minutes before doing this) spray with wd40 or similar and plug back in, then reconnect the battery, this sometimes sorts the the problem, if not then it needs plugging in to VCDS reader to see if any faults are logged, There are people on here who can do this, there is a list somewhere.

When you reconnect the battery the steering light and esp light will remain on, this is normal; all you do is drive in a straight line for a few yards and they will go off.

When my airbag light came on the first time, my fault code reader indicated a fault with the drivers side impact switch, fitted in the drivers door. I removed one side of the rubber boot that covers the wiring harness between the A frame and the drivers door and found that the two wires that go to the yellow connector had broken (it appeared that the insulation had hardened and cracked over time)

A soldering iron and some heatshrink sorted the broken cables and a rearrangement to find a little extra length, fixed the fault.

The second time, it was the yellow connector under the passenger seat, it just required being reseated.

Good luck.

Hi sorry for the delay in replying. Drove it through Norfolk, seen some friends then down to Dorset. Never let's me down this car. M8 has a new M3 Octavia estate, nice but not for me. He suggested both of what is said. Thank you for your help.  I'm going to give it a clean end of week and look in more detail into what you have suggested.  The old guy who had it before me really took care of it from new. I've had it now 2 years and have never had a problem with it. Solid block, change oil, tires, not a mark on any MOT but for last, bit of mist on inside shock. ( Maybe BC I drove through a couple fields ) I've had some nice car's over the years but this M2 Octavia  - and that includes driving in a bus across the Australian outback ( Old Gardner 180 engine ) . This Octavia just keeps going. Like a friend say's - and he's had his old Fabia 25 years - stick with it if it works. I was thinking of an RS. But because I live in Central London I'd get more hammered by the tax.

My Octavia isn't bad for a 56 plate and as said, 2 years, and I have hammered it to clean the moths out, 58K when I got it. Now 69k. I charge things up in it as I'm driving - I do a lot of camping - even stuck , built a bed in the back of it, folds up - piano hinges x 2 and i can go where I want. Her in door's will only do 5* hotels, and posh car's..  She's an accountant and German.. We finally split couple months ago, now I'm happy again.

Anyway thanks for your help again. I'll have a look.

And thanks for those who helped regarding airbag light.. I took it to local garage - C London.  The bloke sent the young lad out with what looked like an android table.  He cleared all error's. Wouldn't take any money so I dropped him a "drink."

Thanks.
