If its anything like Volvo then the same vin on multiple cars would be picked up with recalls and service history entries onto central servers,

 

Along with any software updates as they might have same vins but modules within the vehicles would all have different serial numbers even if they used the same software,

 

The first half of a vin also tells you manufacturer, model year, what model it is and engine and gearbox types

If the vins are the same how can you differentiate from the first five  numbers?

Err, yeah!

Just another of those mysteries that have yet to be revealed when 'whistle blowers' information gets to courts.

 

But currently no issue really to worry about because VW are building and selling EV Camper / MPV's sometime maybe.
