DRL's

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have a 2006 mk2 pre FL? and want to know is it possible to activate some sort of DRL at the front? I have a VCDS and can get North America lights on when handbrake released but have seen somewhere on the net possibly you tube that you can activate main beam as DRL and dim them using VCDS so that they dont blind people when they are being used as DRL. I have managed to turn on  the LH rear fog light so far. mt Central Electrics ECU code is 3C0-937-049-E if that helps anyone Long code currently                                                                 C1 8A 1F 03 10 04 14 00 00 11 0D 00 00 00 00 00 00 18 7F 07 5C

Any help appreciated

Why not just turn on your sidelights and headlight dipped and then you have Daytime / Daylight running lights, front and rear and you are blinding nobody in the daytime / daylight because obviously at lighting up time they don't.

Two options on pre-FL cars without front fog lights:

North America mode: Dipped headlights on when handbrake is off, headlights off when handbrake is on (when ignition is on).

Scandinavian mode: Dipped headlights, sidelights, tail lights and number plate lights on with the ignition, off when the ignition is off.

If you have front foglights then as you mention these can be set-up using VCDS to operate as DRL's at reduced intensity. I did this on my 2008 Scout...

No disrespect whatsoever intended, Silver, but the lights in your pictures are hardly noticeable imo.

Or is it just the pictures?

I ask as i have always been a fan of DRL's. Always on (automatically) when you drive but with minimal battery drain as no other lights on.

My Audi had them (switchable) and a Honda Accord activated dipped headlights automatically with the ignition on. Both WITHOUT any side / rear lights.

My Skoda has none set though the North America mode sounds ok if the sidelights remain off. Wasn't aware this was possible, so thanks for the info.

Hi Silver, thanks for the reply. How did you achieve this with VCDS? i did see the setting for making the fogs DRL's but couldn't make them activate. Obviously i was doing something wrong. Can you assist with which settings you used? I didn't want to use the north america setting (i got this to work).

It's the pictures, was a very bright day and the slope on our drive doesn't help.

The brightness can be adjusted in roughly 10% increments, I think mine were set at around 60%.

They look pretty dim here but on a duller day they were just about right.

Sorry, it was a long time ago when I did it. I'm pretty sure I had to first set the car up in North American mode, then set them to use the front fogs instead of dipped headlights...

That sounds good if they can be set a little brighter if necessary, whilst remaining legal......

I will have to look into this one day soon. The fogs housing on the pre facelift are bigger than the ones in the pic / scout.

Cheers Silver.

I've activated DRL's using my fog lights (at a reduced intensity of something like 50%) using Carista.

Think it's the North American Option ... handbrake on = no DRL's / handbrake off = DRL's. It was one of the first things I done on my Octavia when I purchased it.
