MSP suggest 'Motorhome' levy on island trips.

Featured Replies

Motor home users seem to have some adversity to using proper camp sites, and set up camp any where. The local park and rides and car parks around here  are favourites despite there being plenty of campsites locally. So perhaps a Scottish wide levy on those that refuse to pay to use a proper campsite would be a better idea.

?

Do Motorhomes get to stay overnight in Park & Rides or Car Parks in East Lothian?

There are welcomed in Sunny South Ayrshire, at Sea Fronts parking in the main.

personally i hope that no Authority in Scotland will discourage Motorhomers' Campers etc from going to wildish places,

fuel and ferries are not cheap and and are costing those travelling as it is and taxes and duties are being paid into the treasury.

Proper Campsites in Scotland would be public owned in the main, but most Council Sites were sold off to private ownership / management,

Private sites costing as much as booking a Budget Hotel defeats the point for many motorhomers in their often £40,000 plus vehicles..

Firstly, what Alisdair said there is actually pretty much all true.

Secondly, motorhomers (and campers, but not caravaners) can legally stay single nights on a common grazing or longer by arrangement with the croft owner, on land in the crofting counties, without using a campsite.

Thirdly, and this is critical to my view on the matter, I once overshouted (reflection on the individual's loud and penetrating bray) an Englishman being highly self-congratulatory about how he had spent "a week on the Hebrides, and only spent £10 on milk and newspapers".

Chicken and egg, more space needed of ferries, ferries and communities & the tax payers need these visitors paying on ferries to help reduce the subsidies to the ferries that allows those choosing to move to the Hebrides to live to get away from the rat race, or buy holiday homes there.

A million spending on sewage improvements and water filing points and toilet emptying drains will help the economies and employment,

just more housing needed then.
