Wireless charger with WiFi - Whats the Wifi for in charger?

Featured Replies

Hey,

I've had my new Octavia delivered today and this may seem to be a very stupid question so apologies in advance.

I paid extra to have a wireless phone charger (there were 2 options, 1 without and 1 with WiFi in the wireless phonebox which was even more), I opted for the one with Wifi. I'm really confused because there is Wifi already built into the Amundson head unit. For this to connect to the internet you need another external device if you dont have the columbus unit which has its own sim, such as a mobile with hotspot capabilities etc anyway. What also makes no sense is, in order for Android Auto to work (SmartLink), it needs to be connected VIA USB anyhow which both charges the phone and connects it to the car for the other media etc. I'm just wondering if someone could advise me and also tell me if there is a way to connect android auto wirelessy, and why there is Wifi built into both the Amundson head unit and the wireless charger?

When I ordered it, I assumed the wifi in the wireless charger was to connect the phone for android auto without the need for wires/usb?

Thank you

Peter
