DSG Moan

Featured Replies

When doing a lot of stop start driving I get a moan from the DSG gearbox when changing from first to second gear and the same but quieter from second to third, all other gears OK

Had to drive in London the other day with wife and it was bad and drove us mad.  It sounds totally normal when driving from cold only noisy when car gets a lot of low gear stop start use after about an hour.

Taken it to garage but it never makes a sqeak when being tested. The car has 11 months warranty should I persue this further or wait another few months and see what develops. Suggestions please if anyone has had a similar problem thanks.

Shoul add 1.2 Fabia Estate 19000 mile on clock.

Not come across this one before. It is however, very difficult for us to advise you without actually hearing the noise. There are several things it could be. Do you have, or can you make a sound file for us to listen to? I suspect even that will be awkward because of the difficulty of reproducing the noise at a time you are able to record it. And yes, you should pursue this further. Make sure you record the dates and times you visit the garage to mention and/or let them test for the issue. Write down a detailed report for the garage technician of exactly what the noise sounds like, and under what circumstances it makes the noise (get that recording if you can - we like those!). If it's not possible for the technician to hear the actual noise, ask them to list the fault you are complaining of on their system for future reference so that if a problem occurs just outside warranty there is a record of you complaining about it. If the car is driving fine, even when the noise is present, it's probably nothing to worry about and may even self correct. But on the other hand it could be a sign the mechatronics unit is getting hot and tired. How loud is the moan? Very loud and easy to hear? Something a passenger would or would not hear?

I can now add sound to this started to moan in First and Second strange sound for an auto box. Will only do it when car used in heavy traffic or a lot of hill starts

I can only think that's the mechatronic unit. To make a proper diagnosis a tech would want to play in order to eliminate the clutches and the clutch actuator mechanism. Well done for getting the recording.

DSG Clutches faulty

New clutches being installed tomorrow, do I trust my luck going forward or get shot of the car. It is only 24 months old with 20000 miles.

Will the new clutches last another 2-5 years or will this be an ongoing problem

The dealers say they new clutches are covered by 24 month Skoda warranty, would this be mandatory to the car being serviced by Skoda main dealers?

?

Are you paying something towards the replacement,

if not & being done under the Manufacturers Warranty then not 2 years Warranty only until the Manufacturers Warranty expires.

Pay even £10 of the job and you are covered for 2 years.

If the Dealership employee says 2 years parts and labour cover you want that in writing and the Dealer Principal can sign that.

Had my clutch pack and mechatronic unit replaced at about 14 months old 9k miles.....had a horrible thump when starting off like the engine was going to rip itself off the mounts and the car jolted forward.

So far covered another 9k and it's been sweet as a nut since.

You'll be fine if you keep the car. The clutches are not noted for short life cycle. We have taxi's in my town with DSG Fabia estates and 100,000 miles on the gearbox and clutch with no issues.
