Drivers electric window popped out of the frame / runner on 08 plate UK spec fabia 1.2.

Featured Replies

Hi all I've not been on here in a long while cos our Fabia has been fairly trouble free. However I've converted the other halves grandad to the Skoda love. Subsequently he's purchased an 08 plate fabia. Untill today he loved it until. The drivers window got stuck and jumped out of the frame upon closing. When I took a look earlier the window had dropped at the front edge. Due to the shape of the glass it was sticking out at the rear top edge. I have repositioned the glass and the window now travels up and down fine. I lubed the seals with silicone spray and it's nice and free. However it still droops at the front edge if touched whilst open and drops out of the runners with ease. It feels as though there maybe a loose runner inside the door. But time rain and lack of dry space to work lead me to call it a day for now. Can anyone advise what is likely to be at fault please?

Many thanks in advance.

Spelling and grammar

Probably broken window regulator.

You'll have to remove the door card (search the forums for instructions and tips). Then you'll be able to see the 2 metal clamps through 2 holes in the window regular cover panel that hold the bottom edge of the glass. If they are still holding the glass then one of the clamps (at the front it seems) has broken off the regulator mechanism. The clamps are metal but attached by plastic bits that slide up and down, these snap. It could also be the winder wire is all screwed up. You’ll need to strip the regulator panel off (on the mk1 that involves drilling out all the rivets). You can buy bits and repair kits from ebay, but quite frankly its easier to change the whole regulator.

Dealers used to charge about £200 to change a window regulator (mk1). Its a fiddly job that requires some skills, a riveting tool and takes at least 2 or 3 hours.

Cheers I suspected as much. Once I put the car back in the garage for him I tried the passenger window. It works ok from the drivers switches but the switch on the passenger door seems intermittent. Although it is possible to hear the relays click when operating the switch on the passenger door is operated. There is green growth on the bottom of the glass so I suspect the seals on the glass are tight. Although the switch on the passenger side door seems to operate in reverse? He's only had the car just over a week so history is not really known of the car as such. I will get a kit for both doors and check them at the weekend for him. I'm a bit puzzled as to why the one switch operates in reverse when it does work! Lol.

Thanks for your reply. I've had BV a couple of MK1 fabia doors apart. Is the MK2 the same as MK1 do you know please! MK1 is a horrid job. :-(

Your a legend many thanks. Glad they saw sense those rivets were a pain. The bits that drop in the door when  you still the old rivets out always seemed to drop into a place where you can't get them out easily then rattle driving you mad. Last time I pumped in waxoil to try to stick them in where ever they were to stop the buggers rattling! Haha. But not so much as to block any drain holes.

Thats why I call my car "Baby"... It won't go anywhere without a rattle!
