I've used the cheap Redex stuff at the supermarket filling station, usually just on the tankful which will take me to the MOT just as a preemptive strike against having it fail on emissions and needing to take it for an Italian tune up.

In my experience the more expensive pump diesel does make a fairly instant positive difference to power, response, smoothness and emissions. I can't comment on economy as it's usually just a treat.

I'm sure there are much better options than the cheap Redex stuff, I've never had the need to use them. Some folks swear by a shot of high quality synthetic 2 stroke oil, as the additives help remove carbon build up.

JET-A1 certainly gives a performance boost and a lovely smell at the expense of lubricity and possible fuel pump wear.

On a petrol engine I once used STP Exhaust Clean fuel additive and when I stripped the engine everything from the pistons to the exhaust tip was clean like new!
