Road noise on motorway

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, we have a Fabia Mk3 estate and love it but on the motorway the tyre / road noise really increases and we have to turn the radio up, has anyone else noticed this and maybe solved it with new tyres and if so what type did you get to soften the road noise?

Hi, the car is 2yrs, 4 months old with 21k on the clock, I think the tyres must be the factory fitted ones as they are all the same, Bridgestone Turanza ER300 215/45R16 86H. Will check pressure but  be as per the manual

Is it a concrete road ?

What tyre / wheel size and brand do you have on and at what tyre pressure?  & how many miles have you done?

Thank you the other post is very similar with thanks

I had a mark 3 hatch on 16" wheels and the road noise on motorways was terrible at first. I reduced the tyre pressures to 30psi all round and it made a huge improvement

Keep in mind that Bridgestone Turanza's are hellishly noisy anyway. !!!!!!!!

I had them on a 2013 1.2 TSI 86 - .

They wore very well - but were so so noisy that I got them changed before they were worn to the legal limit.

Since 2010 we have test driven 3 Skoda estates (all Octavias) and 4 SKoda hatches (2 Mk3 Fabias, 1 Octavia and 1 Superb). Regardless of tyres all the estates (different sized wheels and different brand tyres on all) were hellishly noisy, one was so noisy it was painful. All the hatches have been fine, that is why I bought the Superb and will probably order the wife a Fabia later today.

All I can conclude is Skoda have a major issue with the design of the estate part of the body. But it may be a VAG thing, never tried a VW or Seat estate equivalent.

I had 16" Turanzas on my Roomster Scout.  Hellishly noisy indeed!

The 15" Pirellis on my Roomster SE were silent in comparison.
