Oil leak

Featured Replies

So, i recently decided to service my vRS myself. I have had new cars more recently so it has been a while but i thought i had done everything correctly.

However after a couple of days i have had a warning light on my dash so i popped the bonnet and there is oil everywhere. underside of bonnet included.

I think the issue was that i haven't made sure the "o" ring for the oil filter canister was seated correctly. i cannot see any leaks form anywhere else. Sump plug looks ok.

I put 1 litre of oil in and still nothing registers on the stick :-O

Just waiting on a call from local garage regarding some vw 507 oil they are getting for me as i can't/don't/shouldn't drive the car as it is.

When i changed the oil, i did fire  the ca cup on my drive and make sure they were no leaks, but i assume that under load the pressure inside the engine is increased and this has then manifested itself where the poorly fitted (by me) seal for the oil canister is and has sprayed oil everywhere.

Feel a bit of a nugget as i have never had an issue in 30 years of owing and maintaining cars.

Hope it will all be ok once i get some new oil in. Fingers crossed.

Also any suggestions for removing oil from a tarmac driveway?
