Front Assist - Spurious Warnings

Featured Replies

I have only had my car for just shy of two weeks and very happy with it.

On odd occasions though I have had what I consider to be spurious Front Assist alerts.

The 1st time was driving the car home after initial collection. It scared the life out of me as it also applied the brakes sharply on a busy dual carriageway. On this occasion, I can't confirm if this was driver error (too close to car in front) or a random activation.

Since then, I have witnessed at least four or five alerts (no braking), all of which I would definitely say appear to be spurious.  Although they have stopped happening since washing the car, so this could be down to dirt etc on sensor.

Last night whilst driving home in a rain shower, I got a Front Assist system warning combined with an amber warning triangle. It gave a system degrade message that cleared after a few minutes.

Has anyone else witnessed similar issues?

Is the system over sensitive to dirt, rain etc?

I have had a number of these as well, I had one this morning funnily enough.

This mornings was definitely a false reading as there was nothing around me at all thankfully. Additionally, as I cleaned the car last night unless it was a leaf blowing onto the sensor I do not think it was a cleanliness issue. It simply beeped, showed the red warning and did a hard brake.

Last week, going through a cloud of dust from roadworks I got the degraded mode warning that, as you said, took a few minutes to clear.

Must admit that I assumed that the sensors would use a combination of Radar and Cameras and hence I find the leaf explanation unlikely but have no other suggestion on why it would occur once in a while.

I don't have the front assist but the auto emergency braking in reverse has scared the wotsit out of me a few times while reversing into the garage or doing a 3 point turn! and there has been nothing in the way!! to bother me.

Sorry do have front assist was thinking of the cruise control assist:blush:

You can alter the the settings from early middle and late in settings

Thought I'd got away from spurious front parking sensor warnings when I replaced my Qashqai with the Karoq, but now the Karoq's started doing it! Is it a problem for all cars with parking sensors, or have I just been unlucky?

They go off at random, usually in slow traffic, when I'm nowhere near the car in front.

I had this with a couple of brakes being applied when driving normally gave us both a shock, and shortly it went to Amber in vehicle settings. This happened day after getting car. Turn off and on again helped briefly but then it came back to Amber.  Took back to dealer as had alert near speedo too, and it ended up having the radar replaced and recalibrated had to be taken away to be done as local dealer didn’t have the special ramp and gear to do this. All good since but one to watch out for.
