Hi guys, does anyone have the VAG-COM  VCDS in Surrey area?

Had a starting problem - was cranking and firing but would not start properly. Took to local garage, ran diagnostics which did show some elec faults, they fitted new battery which cleared codes and starts fine. But seems odd to me that a new battery cured the fault - because it was cranking ok with old battery and not starting? Is there a speed it has to crank before the engine gets a proper spark from the ECU? 

I'm honestly not sure, but having a battery too low and too much drain on the electricals has resulted in issues starting before. Is your alternator charging the system properly?

Good question - the garage did not check that (as was non-running static test) but they now said they would to a cranking and charging check FOC if I took it back. 

So yes it may well be alternator. Its been fine since then, but just concerned they havent got to root of problem, and am trying to stop same problem happening again.
