DSG gearbox lock wont realease

Featured Replies

hi guys, just wondered if anyone has any help for me on this one, Octavia vrs diesel dsg estate, 58 plate 09 regd pre facelift, try to start car all lights are on dash as normal but gear selection lights flash, sometimes it will start sometimes  it wont if it does start  it wont realease the gear leverlock so you can   select drive ect, but in both cases turn on the sidelights and it will start and realease the gearlever, it then drives perfect, it also sometimes starts and realeases as it should, just hoped some one may have had this  and could point me in the right direction, cheers  neil

The sidelights fix would point to an electrical issue.

Any other anomalies? When was the battery last replaced?

A good place to start would be to check for any fault codes stored on the car. Do you know anyone with VCDS or OBDeleven etc.?

hi, the battery was changed the day before  this fault started but it was started 4 times before it  started  playing up, I have had an hours  labour at my local skoda dealer they have done a scan and reset is it ? and tried a light switch from a doner vehicle no luck, scan fault was gearbox module not communicating with ignition system, more time needed but at £106 an hour and car only worth £3500 ish and them saying they don't know but they will find it I could be £100s in the hole and no further forward, thanks for your reply I just thought some one on here may have come across this fault before or something  like it, it was worth a try cheers neil

hi mate no news, loads of thoughts but nothing solid, an ex vag tech who is a friend of a friend says that they had loads of problems with brakelight switchs causeing all sorts of  mayhem with the canbus system is it ? nothing  the same as my fault but parts of it like not releaseing the key, switching something on and the fault goes, just living with it at the moment, as stated before not prepared to chuck money at it  blind

Hi. I finally managed to solve the problem. I have a friend who had a spare gearbox. I mean the lever and stuff, the selector. So took it apart, and switched the electric control board what's inside the selector. Unfortunatelly you have to take out the whole central console, with the armrest, and stuff. It's not the easiest job to do but manageable. Here some pictures if you want to take it apart. I don't know if your's have the same problem, but maybe a way to start with.
