Fitting component speakers

Featured Replies

I'm considering fitting new component speakers in the front of my Octavia, however can anyone offer me advise on how easy/difficult this is going to be. I'm looling at getting a set of Alpine SXS 1757s (according to the Alipne web site they fit), but is it going to be too much grief...should I stick with 2-ways...any suggestions??!

Yes, two-ways will be easier to fit as there's half the work involved... ;)

People on here have fitted components, they'll be able to advise you if there were ay complications.

I don't think there's anything between components and 2-ways in terms of quality, it just comes down to personal preference. If you like your tweeter at ear height then components will be for you. However, if you get 2-ways with pivoted tweeters, then these can be angled to give the same effect.

Or to be real flash, get some 2-ways and some tweeter components - best of both worlds... :D

Rob.

Components are just as easy to fit as coaxials and will sound a lot better with the tweeters closer to ear level.

The trim that hides the existing tweeters just pops off.

The only possible drawback is that some have quite bulky crossover units that could be hard to hide in the doors.

I have brought some component speakers for my Tavia, best to fit the crossover under the dash and just thread the wires through to the speakers in the door, having said that I'm going to pay somebody who knows what there doing to fit mine.

Yep , thats where I have my X-overs.

Aside from it being easier I didn't want to damage any of the factory fit wiring so I can revert to standard when I sell the car without too much fuss.

Infinty CS6500's fit but the lower window channel bracket needs a little "fettling" with tin snips to fit the magnets in.

Crossovers fit behind the door cards (just).

Not sure of the efficiency of the Alpines - most decent components only come into their own when driven by a seperate amp
