De-catting Miltek down pipe

Featured Replies

As the title, i wonna de-cat my miltek down pipe i have an adaptor that makes the old down pipe fit so i can't see the point of having the cat there stealing power when i can just stick on the old one for the MOT but i dont wonna make the car to loud coz i drive long distance so has anyone done this before and if so how did you find it? Power & Noise wises?

DaveU has done it. Apparently very very boomy/noisy. I thought about it but was put off by the stories of noise from those who have tried it.

Why not go for a high flow CAT?

Have the high flow cat already don't mind if its a bit louder just as long as its ok when your sitting at 70 or 80!

Hi

There is always the issue too of the pre cat lambda putting the warning light on on the dash.

So this would be another reason to go sports cat.

The sports cat does not have issues with the sensors

Yeah, but think of those horses and extra noise you could release by getting rid of that cat... :D

Why not just stick a bit of black tape over the check engine light - then it would never bother you then.*

You could always decat it and then go to powerflow/longlife and get a custom exhaust system, releasing more power, reducing spool up time and reducing noise if it is too loud...

From all cars I've been in a decat does make it noticably louder. I fitted mine on my car a couple of weeks ago (stuck the cat on for the MOT in dec), and I'd forgotten how loud the car is with the decat. it's shocking.

That said, turbo cars aren't affected noise wise anywhere near as much as nasp cars due to the silencing affect of the turbo.

It is very loud...even more so no you've stripped out the interior.....I remember a return from Jabba not so long ago....the drive was fun but the major headache after wasn't. ;):D

If you do long range driving I would say keep the cat.....lovely sound but it is noisey.

I have literially a striaght through exaust on my Celicia...it exists through a Jap style box....it's bl**dy loud....too loud even for what was my 24 miles commute to work...going to get the back box change to something quieter.

TaviaRS used to have the same exhaust as Dave...he did very long range driving....mind you he's a bit on the deaf side. (sorry Obi:D )

Just switch it off with VAGCOM!

Think i'll go for it more power more noise more fun...... Now has anyone got a loan of a welder:D

You cant just switch it off with VAG-COM.

You cant just switch it off with VAG-COM.

Their is someway of switching it off tho isn't their?

No, you cant turn it off. Its signal is used for various calculations relating to air/fuel mixtures and combustion data for the ECU.

How did daveu get around this?

How did daveu get around this?

Can't it be turned off in the mapping?

Possibly, I did read that one of the tuners can disable it as part of a remap. IIRC it was IP or REVO.

Think it was revo iirc. But would think all the big names could do it.

It must of been Revo coz i knew it wasn't gonna be a big problem to by pass it......
