Issue with windows and alarm (and other electrical issues!)

Featured Replies

Hi, new on here and as a last resort I thought I'd see if anyone on here could help.

I've had a number of intermittent electrical problems with my 2010 Octavia as follows:

- Alarm going off after locking

- passenger and rear passenger windows not working from drivers side controls (work using passenger controls)

- flickering dashboard lights

- brake disc warning light coming on when discs are fine

Note that all issues are intermittent and not all are present at the same time, I'll sometimes go weeks at a time with no problem but the window alarm thing seems to becoming more frequent lately.

Now the top two issues (maybe the others too?) I'm convinced are related to some electrical issues in the drivers side door and do present themselves together. If the passenger window stops working then the alarm problem is likely to occur too. I often used to find that if it was raining heavy and some rain got in to the drivers control unit that the window and alarm issue would start. This has progressed over the years and now presents itself in fine weather also. I've taken the window controls out today and cleaned them up but to no avail (it wasn't particularly dirty and no sign of burnt out connections on the circuit board), I also  I don't see how a few drops of rain could have reached the circuit board anyway so that's my initial theory gone I suppose.

My local mechanic took a look at the brake disc issue but couldn't see anything (he's no electrical expert though) and just put it down to electrical gremlins :~)

Anyone had anything similar (particularly the alarm and window issue as I park well away from work and will have no idea if the alarm is going off).

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers

Tim

@TimWaller - Start by getting a battery health check. You can get all sorts of electrical strangeness if the battery is weak or the alternator isn't charging fully.
