Stop start

Featured Replies

I put a new AGM battery in may 8 year old car as the old one (it was the original) after one day not driven the battery was dead and also when running the stop start was not working properly under the new battery the stop  start is still not working any ideas

@boro1876 OK, a question in actual English would be nice. For example, use sentences and not an unpunctuated flow of consciousness (That's a valid method of writing a novel, but not of asking technical questions).

What I do know that seems relevant is that you have to achieve a minimum level of battery charge before an enabled stop start system will work.

Quick question - Does the battery light come on then you first switch the ignition on?

Battery light comes on before start up.been for a 30 mins drive tried the stop start still not kicking in. everything else works as normal

Has it occurred to you Ken that like many posters on here English may not be the OP's mother tongue?

I understand your frustration though as many who are native speakers will start a posting with "so"............ relate an experience and not ask any question.

@J.R. Yesterday, there was a Spaniard, a German, a Norwegian and a Scot. I was the Scot, and all four of us were chatting in English, with some German, Spanish and support from Google translate for technical words that none of us knew in a second language. I was watching my grammar and diction more closely than usual, but that was the only concession they needed.

As for the OP, I presume they have an Octy 2 with an AGM battery and a Stop-Start that isn't.

Yes octy  greenline 2 2011 1.6 tdi

There is a long list of prerequisites that need to be met before stop/start will kick in. For example on my Passat if I turn the fan up to setting 4 the stop/start doesn't kick in, whereas it will on setting 3 (Presumably a battery drain threshold is reached at this point). A DPF regen will stop it kicking in as will the battery voltage being below 11.5V (?). I would think that a diagnostic such as VCDS could probably be used to ascertain a specific reason for stop/start not being active, so I would start there.
