P2296 & car not starting.

Featured Replies

Hello all. Having issues today to start my 2011 vrs tsi. Don't seem to have any compression as car is not firing. Got home from work to have a look and scanned using carista, threw up code P2296. Guess if the fuel pump has somehow failed then this explains the no compression. Anyone come across this before?

I would check the wiring first but if nothing found then replace the valve.

Here are the details from Ross-Tech, the makers of the VW specific diagnostic software VCDS:

18728/P2296/008854 - Fuel Pressure Regulator Valve (N276): Short to Plus

Possible Symptoms

  • Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) ON

Possible Causes

  • Wiring and/or connections faulty
  • Fuel Pressure Regulator Valve (N276) defective

Possible Solutions

  • Check wiring and connections
  • Check / Replace N276

Special Notes

  • On some engines, the N276 may be refered to as the N290 in the factory wiring diagram.
