Hotspot WLAN and Google Map view

Featured Replies

When I first had my Karoq I bought a SIM data only card and was able to use the Google map view within the navigation system. That card has expired so I assumed that if I linked my phone through the hotspot then this would work again. So having set up and linked the hotspot I’ve tried turning on the Google map view again but the system reports on screen that the ‘Licence is invalid’. Has anybody else had success. Presently I can’t really see what else the infotainment system can do when connected to the hotspot thus using the data of a mobile phone so don’t see the purpose of connecting to the hotspot. Any advice would be valued.

I don't have this option on my 2019 Columbus. If you do a search you'll read about VAG licence no longer valid for Google earth. Perhaps that means Google maps too?

Here's a slightly different question but perhaps someone can answer. I received my free 200mb data card from Three

However I need to activate it and to do so it needs to be inserted in to the device where you then go the the Three website and...   Well you can see the problem, Columbus isn't a browser.

Now I could of course first use the SIM on my phone, activate it and then transfer it back to the Columbus

But Columbus takes a normal SIM size, any of my phones use smaller SIM sizes, and the Columbus manual says do not use a SIM adapter :wall:

So any ideas how I activate a std size sim?  I mean are there any devices hooked up to the internet these days that use std size sims?

You could use a card reader/adaptor like the one listed below. They take all sizes of cards and connect to your computer via USB once activated via the Three website you can insert it into the car.

Er, that’s not going to work. The OP needs to activate a SIM card.

@Scot5 I think a dab or 3 of superglue might be an option, assuming they SIMs are still multi size?

@Scot5 did you solve your sim issue?

if not, you can get a Sim adapter from Amazon.

Search for Helect SIM card adapter. £3.50

I got one today and it does all sizes of SIM.

So, having got the wifi to work, I noticed that I never seemed to get a signal when parked up.

Purely by accident, I discovered that when I switch the ignition off, the wifi switches off after a short period so to use it when parked I have to have the ignition on

Can anyone tell me if this is normal and if there is a setting to allow it to work with the ignition off please?

TIA
