Alloys :: fitting and online resource

Featured Replies

Sorry for the n00bie nature of this, but hey...

I'm just on the brink of my first 10k miles with my car. :) I've had it since October and have grown to get used to the car, work out it's strengths and weaknesses. I've then thought about improving it. The one thing that really stops me liking this car more than I do is it's visuals. The arches are too big, it sits too high and the wheels are too small.

First step to changing this is to upgrade the alloys. Now, this is a bit of a science to me, but bare with me. I get the impressions that 17s will squeeze onto a Fabia vRS without any problems? Looking at some of the 'deals' they come with either 215 or 205 rubber. What's what? What's best?

Also, if I mail order alloys/tyres, and they come already balanced [do most places do this?] can I just pop them on one by one and merrily drive on my way? Or, do they have to have something done to them [i dunno, alignment? tracking?] when they're put onto the car for the first time?

Also, anyone aware of a good online resource for loads of alloys, so I can get a rough idea what they're going to look like on my car?

TIA.
