Strange head unit volume variaton

Featured Replies

My Symphony head unit has started being rather annoying, a few weeks ago it dipped in volume then wouldnt go about 20. Another time I had to turn it up to 27 to hear it at 60mph then it wouldnt go any louder. I thought nothing of it as it was fine after that for a week or so.

Now on the motorway it is varying the volume (car at constant speed ;)) from about 2 to 30 on its own.

I've tried turning GALA off, GALA level 1, GALA level 9 etc. but nothing helps.

No fault codes are logged (though I doubt the stereo logs faults?)

New head unit time ?

It sounds royally knackered to me mate.

Does the GALA work by some kind of mic, or is it adjusted with some kind of speed/abs sensor or something?

Just wondering in case its a problem with something other than the head unit.

It seems to be following the speed - it gets notably louder when pushing on ;)

It has done it a few time without the engine running so whilst it seems like a GALA issue I dont think it is 100% realted to that, possible the internal amp 9if there is one) packing up.

Same thing was happening with mine, it was replaced under warranty, apparently this is quiet a common fault.

I hope yours is still covered,as they are not cheap.

At 96k miles it is well out of warranty. Currently looking at other brands of unit as the originals go for £150+ used on ebay
