Wireless CarPlay - No Internet/Data Connection on phone

Featured Replies

Hi

Hope someone can point me in the right direction?

Phone connects perfectly fine to Bluetooth and CarPlay via USB connection.

When my want to connect my iPhone to CarPlay using WiFi, Ia prompt appears asking me to connect to WifI. When I do so and turn on WifI connection, it bridges the car's infotainment system with my phone but stops any mobile data connection coming into my phone. This means I cant stream any music or basically use any of the Apps like Google Maps

Not sure if it's just me. Hope you can help?

Thanks

There should not be a separate connection to wifi. Carplay should agree this over bluetooth automatically. Try to toggle CarPlay off and on in bluetooth connection settings for your car.

I've experienced this problem once or twice so far in my MY21. Didn't realise it had happened at first, then I took a wrong turn and the Waze re-routing just didn't kick in. I picked up the phone and unlocked it, it popped up a message saying "cellular data was turned off". Turned it back on, and everything worked again. Weird.

Quick note: Wireless CarPlay works via bluetooth and wifi. Bluetooth is used to set up and authenticate the wifi connection with your phone, then bluetooth disconnects. If you look at your phone's control centre, it'll show wifi as being disabled whilst connected to wireless carplay (and when you go into settings, you'll instead see that you have a wifi connection with your car's wifi hotspot...). If, when you're connected, your infotainment shows the phone's connection as being wifi instead of cellular bars, you've probably got an issue and you'll have to disconnect and try again.

Thanks for that

That is exactly what happens.

Not sure what else to do. I have deleted user details and started again but it seems to remember settings and as soon as it tries to connect to CarPlay via Wifi, it turns on the data less hotspot between the car and my phone

Quickest way I've found to sort it, is go to iPhone control centre. You'll notice wifi is turned off (it's not, of course, but): turn it on. You'll get a warning: turning on wifi will disconnect CarPlay. say OK. Infotainment will say: device disconnected. Turn off wifi again and wait for it to reconnect, usually quite quick. You've got a better than even chance it'll work this time; if not...sorry, it's rinse and repeat.
