Frozen out of car

Featured Replies

2018 Octavia Hatch - live in the Midlands so no real extreme conditions but on a number of occasions, my doors have all frozen solid so I've not been able to get in the car. A bit of a problem at 5:30-6am when you're trying to get in to work on time without waking up the neighbours.

Last time it happened, I ended up using the keyfob to wind down the windows so I could get some leverage to open the doors but this isn't a good solution really. Is this a known issues with the Octavia model or am I just unlucky ? I've not had this problem since my 1988 Astra used to do the same (in through the boot !)

Gummi pfledge applied to the door seals should do the trick.

^^^^ Perfect stuff, that i can not spell.

Preparation for winter is 'Simply Clever'.

Servicing, prepping door / hatch seals.  Fuel Filler flap etc.   Polish the paint work and lube the catch / fastener.

Tyre Pressures, Winter Screen Wash, check Anti Freeze / Summer Coolant / Anti Rust solutions strength.  ie Coolant.

If you do use Warm Water to get the doors open remember and dry off later before things freeze up again during the day or night.

The Car Plan Pre Icer i got last year was rubbish for windows but good for spraying door seals as long as nobody gets their clothes spoiled on it and you clean off after the winter.

Halfords Night Before Deicer was great but not had it for a couple of winters.  It was usually 3 for the price of 2.
