Scout Mk3 prop shaft coupling issue.

Iv got a Mk3 2016 Scout 42k miles, just had an oil change and inspection where it was noticed that the prop shaft coupling has some cracks in it, the garage is an independent VW Audi specialist, he`s actually a mate but says he`s not seen this before, he said its not a panic issue and the cracks are minor at the moment.

Can anyone shed some light on this please, any experiences, cost to repair, thanks. 

My broinlaw had this with the yeti at about 70k miles however tgat started to swell and seize and vibrate like crazy at 60mph and the replacement was something daft. I have a 4x4 suoerb sportline diesel and touch wood that seems fine even with 540nm of torque

Thanks I’ll get it done ASAP in case it starts vibrating and causing more damage.

I recently replaced my coupling on Scout Mk3 65k miles. I have had a "thrumming" noise when car is loaded, and checked coupling. There were several "cracks", so DIY job from Autodoc - £200. I have to say I may have wasted money, as the new unit has cracks too! The construction is such that there are slits in the rubber I assume to allow a degree of flex. Time will tell, but the noise/vibration is still there. If you have no issues, I would be tempted to leave it alone. Changing Haldex fluid/clean filter and diff oil is probably more important. I am now moving my diagnosis to the rear drive shafts...........

Thanks that's pretty much what my man said he isn't a bit concerned about it, its me I like to get repairs done as quick as possible maybe Im over thinking it.

At the moment theres no noise or vibration.

There's a manufacturer bulletin on the subject that basically states that cracks don't necessarily render the coupling to have failed or be in need of replacement.

I'm afraid I'm not allowed to share them. 

 

I've been under my own car today and the propshaft coupling is cracked and looking a bit sorry for itself but it's not causing me any issues.

I had my DMF replaced in December at 101,000 miles and have been suffering from vibration under acceleration to the point that the dashboard rattles. Ive had all the engine mounts replaced under warranty but still the same problem - its worse between 1-2k rpm and when the car has warmed up - ( I drive a lot of long motorway journeys ) could this be the problem? Vibration is horrific

@gora230Do you have any updates on this? Did you manage to track the issue? I have the same symptoms as you described. Looked under the car today coupling has some cracks and a bit of play but not sure if that’s the issue…

Had them changed but didn’t make any difference. Sadly sold the car in the end as I couldn’t find a fix but i think it might of been the transfer box and megatronics
