Is theft of infotainment systems an issue?

Featured Replies

Relative has messaged me this morning telling me the infotainment system of her VW Sharan has been stolen.

I have to admit that I didn't think it was a problem since systems were coded to a car (unlike when people used to nick radios in the past, and we had removeable radios / screens etc)

I quick google though does seem to show other cases, and that in some cases component protection can be removed. Anyone know if skoda / VAG have fixed this?

There will always be hackers that can remove component protection, so as always it's a case of the car manufacturers playing catchup.

It's not something car manufacturers are very good at tbh. I'd imagine it's not hard to recode these systems

@Jase_31  What age of Sharan was it and how did they get in the car?

Any damage done?

There are toerags that will steal anything if the chance arises and those that will target certain vehicles / parts.
