Unlocking all doors from driver's door key lock

Featured Replies

Not sure if it has been posted ,but could not find any relevant info i think,

how can all doors unlock with key via driver's door lock - instead of only driver's?

Do have maxidot and the option is set to all doors  (this for the remote procedure?)

just to mention that car has a dealer's fit alarm system and which embeded in both the key fobs .

I think the lock is just mechanical and not electrically connected to the others, so if you unlock it just with turning the key in the lock it opens that lock only. If you send a remote signal to open, it goes through controlling unit which sends signal to every lock to open (subject to settings in maxidot).

No the BCM can be programmed so that key operation does the same as remote, it might be that it has to be the same, I no longer have a MK2 to check but I think that I deactivated the global opening (all doors unlocked plus windows wound down) because I was finding the windows open after cleaning the appartments (bending over with keys in pocket) but could still use the feature when desired on a hot day by manually using the key, I definitely have done that on the Yeti.

I used VCDS to make the changes.

Using the key manually will operate the electronic systems.

Ok, thanks, will investigate in VCDS.

Though windows do open when holding key to unlock position both in door  lock and in fob. (the same happens when closing them by turning to lock position of the  door lock)

Also think that from moment it has the alarm control  fitted in the key fob, not sure if it can deactivate it when unlocking doors from the key lock....

Will try and see..

No that is a problem that I am coming up against, I want to be able to unlock the door with a valet key (no immobiliser chip) as I will have hidden my main keyring inside the car, using any key even the remote control one manually will set off the alarm.

It makes no difference if it is locked with the proper key or the valet key, the alarm gets set but can only be unlocked by the remote without setting off the siren, if anyone knows how to overcome this I would be really gratefull.

I have programmed in a siren delay (Thatcham setting) in VCDS but it has not worked.

So the situation with that COBRA 4800 CAN series is that the key can lock all doors from key lock and the alarm gets activated (after 30 secs), while unlocking releases only driver's door (without deactivating alarm) .  At that point if open the door the siren will sound..

Only if unlocking within 30 secs from llocking (and still no alarm turns on) , will unlock all doors...

So I may not be able to do what have in mind, and I would need the unlocking (and alarm off) via door...

@J.R. why not buy a used remote key from eBay etc? You can pair the remote fob side but ignore the key blade/immo. That'll give you a key that can unlock/lock the car but nothing else.

What happens with your normal remote key if you unlock the car with the key blade and then immediately use the key to turn the ignition on?

I wanted a tiny key to be able to hide in a convenient place (if I tell you where I would have to kill you!).

If I do as you say the alarm sounds but is silenced when the ignition is turned on and the keychip recognized, trouble is that draws attention which is exactly what I am trying to avoid, I dont want people to see where I currently stash the keys, I have found a way to lock the car with the remote leaving a rear door open so I can put the keys inside and close the door which then deadlocks, anyone watching would not know about the hidden key as its only used to unlock, I want it to unlock but not start the vehicle and do not  want  the alarm to sound.

If the programming for the 15 or 20 second delay would work I would have a solution to all my problems.

I did not buy a remote key for reasons of price, its bulk and also the hidden valet key is also to be used if I lose my keys (the spare remote key is very well hidden somewhere else within the vehicle for that eventuality).

When I have the energy to tackle the programming again I will start a seperate thread, the answer is there somewhere.

My car never came with a remote fob, just a key.

If I turn it once in the driver's door it unlocks that door; turning it twice (literally put key in, turn, back to start, turn) unlocks everything.

If you turn key twice in 2 secs time it unlocks all doors?

I think I've tried but not this works too....
