What's a fuel injection pump??

Featured Replies

I had the Octy in the garage with a few niggles. A starting and running lumpy problem was diagnosed as a faulty temperature sensor inside the Fuel Injection Pump. The garage have ordered on in which i shall be getting fitted mid month.

But what is it? what does it do?? Is it the same as a fuel pump?

Modern diesels' date=' instead of having a mechanical diesel pump to control ignition and injection, have electronic pumps which are controlled by the ECU. These pumps operate at much higher pressures and tighter tolerance levels that the mechanical ones, thus providing better economy, more power, more efficiency, etc.

But his 110 bhp has a regular injection pump.

It does have a temp sensor built into the top of the pump.

Apparently the temp sensor cannot be changed alone, and the whole pump must be replaced.

We had the diesel pump replaced on our old 1.5D Citroen AX and it cost £550 :'( - not a nice repair to suffer.

I would get a second opinion on that due to the likely cost involved. But at least the pump should be available on exchange.

Luckily the car still has 3 weeks of warranty left. That's why i am making the most of it now.

I def wouldn't want to be replacing it outside warranty if that's what it costs.

In that case i'd edit your about post about you know what just incase.

The temp sensors in the injection pump can be changed. It is not very difficult and replacement part should not cost much. You will probably have to go to an diesel injection specialist for the part. Search tdiclub.com for details....
