Engine oil 1.5 TSI

Featured Replies

Has anyone got a definitive on which oil to use in the 1.5 TSI please (MK4)

The manual is no help, no stickers anywhere on the car, my registration number is not even recognised on any parts websites. Just tried live chat to Skoda the best they could offer was make sure it meets VW50800.

I did a quick search of Halfords and no oil is listed as meeting that spec and asked well is that 5w30 or 5w40 or other? They didn't know!!!

Anyone know?

The recommended Oil is that approved or meets the specification of vw 508.00. It is 0w-20 and usually labelled Longlife IV or Longlife 4

Quantum longlife 4 is what is used in many dealers, readily available on ebay, amazon and other online stores at around £40 or less for 5 litres

Great stuff, many thanks for that.

If you just need small amount for top up (500ml or litre)  then some petrol stations sell 0w-20 oil, my local BP one does, selling Castrol brand oil

Yeah, I may give the local petrol station a whirl, I can't imagine I need even a litre but got the car's first really long run out this weekend and want it right. I will go buying cars just as lockdowns hit...

Thanks for the info dudes, I've since searched a bit online and have found the following is definitely compliant:

Mobil ESP X2 0W-20

The Mobil website confirms it is compatible with VW50800.

Be wary, there is a review on Halfords of the standard Mobil 1 0W-20 saying that is not compatible with VW50800, so make sure you buy the stuff I have named.

I'm getting 1litre from Euro Car Parts today for £13.49 thanks to discount code MID6O in their mid-month sale. Note that they sell it as Mobil ESP 0W-20 X2. Same stuff, but they've jumbled the name up.

Thanks again for help, and hope my bit of extra info helps others.
