Anyone had a kayak on a citigo with Thule roof bars & kayak carrier?

Featured Replies

Hi, recently swapped an old focus for a citigo, keen kayak’er/cyclist. Got the bars & the bike & kayak carrier (s) but not tried the kayak yet cos I can ply secure it at the front (as well as on the bars), anyone else use kayak on citigo & how do you do it?

Years back there was the 500 mile then 600 mile Citigo tank range challenge which was excellent fun (except for those stuck behind the competitors).

I can feel the "what's the daftest thing you've got on the roof of a Citigo" challenge is just around the corner!

(could you lash the front of the kayak to the towing eye?)

A local Kayak instructor to me has carried his white water / creak kayak on his Citigo for a few years.

just strapped on roof bars.

Depends on what you're padding. I haven't got a citigo, but my 7 foot long coaching / use and abuse boat lives on the 4 foot long roof of my MK2 caddy. It's just laid upside down on a cheap pair of bars with four pound shop straps, 2 in a barrel wrap for and aft and two in a barrel wrap making a cross, it can do thousands of miles up there and not move an inch

My kayak fits in the back with the rear seats in the normal upright position, at a pinch I can even carry it on my bicycle.

And I think its older than me as well!

Its a Klepper!

I usually transport it with the front and rear parts of the frame assembled and the skin in its carry bag, it went in the back of the Octavia like that but not sure about the Yeti, I got fed up with fully assembling it by the water because it always drew a gawping crowd making stupid comments.

I doubt a Citigo will get over 40mph with a big lump of wind resistance on the roof. I don't think the Citigo is a suitable vehicle for carrying kayaks,

I have had Kayaks on all sorts including my Original Mini, & on a Picanto.

Had a Spud (Prijon Topolino) or 3 inside several cars.

By coincidence this turned up while i was sitting in the sun charging my car.

It does the NSL OK as far as i have ever seen.

You won't get a Spud in a Citigo  It needed to go over the top of the passenger seat in my Escort van....

If he's got a creek boat on there it's gonna struggle, especially with all the associated kit in the car. I reckon a paddle would have to strap to the roof also.

I've revised my thoughts though, a composite slalom boat on the roof won't be bad. A dinky playboat might not be very heavy either, but still pretty bluff. I never owned a playboat so tend to forget about those B)

The Spud stayed in my Picanto with the passenger seat back down.

The Duo did need to go on the roof.
