Rattling noise from bay and exhaust ?

Featured Replies

Hi guys!

Well... Have rattling noise sometimes, yes a bit weird but only sometimes 1.9 TDI BLT, first time I think can be the camshaft, we chacked and looks nice, not worn, second one was the flywheel, we change it but the rattling from exhaust was stay :( injectors are perfect, clutch kit+flywheel are brand new! Normally engine noise is good but when I give some gas  is rattling from under the car and on  idle from exhaust! Any idea guys? :/ what else can be?

The exhaust heat shields under the car are a common source of rattles. They are held on with steel clips against the aluminium shields and because of the dissimilar metals the aluminium shields tend to corrode around the steel clips which leaves them free to rattle/vibrate.

Clips and shield look like this...

Some people make repair washers like this....

If you need any clips they are part number N90335004

Thank you for your comment! Well... Heat shield was attached properly today so it something else I'm afraid :/ thing is.. Exhaust noise is changing all the time so weird.. Power is same, so never dropped, flywheel done, camshaft checked   exhaust is catback, cat now on 100K, never been mapped

If you've checked all of the clip locations on all of the shields, then maybe the catback is fouling against something or something is loose inside it, or maybe it just makes a crap noise. It has also been known for the insides of catalysts to break up and rattle. It's a difficult problem to sort out without seeing the car in the flesh.

It's a diesel. It may need an oil change, so if it's close to one I'd do that first. Otherwise it may have a slightly sticky tappet.

As a free check to rule something out I would take that auxiliary belt off and see if it goes away.
