excuse my ignorance ,,but can some tell me where the ac unit is on my 07 vrs tdi  also i have not used it for years so what can i expect ...... i'm not 100 sure it works as when i purchased the car 2nd hand i didnt know it had ac

What do you mean by "A/C unit"? The A/C isn't one single unit. It is made up of many components.

the air conditioning unit   .. i have found it .. its under the alternator... ... what i have also found that there are two  places where it looks like it can be charged ... i will get phots tomorrow ....   i hope this helps 

That's the compressor...

The best (safest and only legal) way to get it tested is to take it to a garage. They can first do a leak test and if the system is sealed it may just need topping up.

 

It's not a DIY Job.
