Wheel Size Question

Featured Replies

Hi all, sorry if this has been asked before but I have searched and cannot find the info I want.

I have the opportunity to purchase some 17ins alloys from a Skoda Karoq, the alloys are  7j x 17 Et45, however the tyres are 215/55/17, will these be OK to use, will they result in contact with anything or speedo error?

The tyres fitted have between 4 to 5mm left but my budget at the moment won't allow me to buy the correct sized tyres.

My car is a 2008 pre fl elegance and has the standard 16 ins alloys with 205/55/16 tyres

Thanks in advance

Cheers PaulW

I think your filler cap will show a list of all the standard sizes for an Octy 2. Since you don't mention which trim you have, I can't advise further because I don't know what your standard size is.

Thanks for your reply, I've just checked the filler cap and for 17 ins the size is 215/45/17 so it looks like the tyres are not suitable?

Yeah, a 215/55 will be too high, and may make your speedo read illegally, even if it clears inner and outer arches all round (and at full lock both ways at the front).

That's a shame then as the alloys are in A1 mint condition as only been used for 9k miles from new, I suppose there is also insurance implications of having the wrong size tyres fitted.. 🙈

And, indeed, for having a non-standard pattern alloy wheel fitted.

Thanks again for your reply, I wasn't too concerned about that as would notify my insurer, my alloys have been refurbished once in November but were really corroded so now they are starting to bubble up again so don't really want to spend anymore money on them so thought I'd try a different style whilst I was replacing them, ideally another set of 16 ins wheels would be good as my tyres are only 6 months old and are goodyear efficient grip
