Lights flicker after replacing fully drained battery

Featured Replies

After replacing fully drained battery with new one, all lights flicker randomly including headlights. Even when ignition key is removed , hazard light keep turning on and off. what could be the problem ? Pls help.

It sounds like its memory got corrupted during the swap.

Try:

1. Disconnect the negative battery lead (with ignition off).

2. Turn ignition on.

3. Activate headlights flash, horn and hazard lights to drain any residual charge in the system.

4. Wait 1 minute then deactivate anything you switched on.

5. With the ignition still switched on reconnect the battery negative lead in one swift action, don't faff and create sparks as you fumble to reconnect.

6. Switch ignition on and check if any change.

Thanks MicMac for your advise. Tried the above steps. Still the same situation. Service Center claims BCM module faulty based on fault monitoring device.

Thanks for letting us know my suggestion didn't work, I was confident it would.

Strange that electronics would fail due to low voltage/battery replacement.

Check the battery voltage with a voltmeter - 1) at the battery with the ignition off, 2) again with the ignition on, and then repeat 2) at some other point in the car such as the aux power socket [also called the cigar lighter socket].

The flashing display etc occurs when the battery voltage is below 11V. Could be your new battery needs a charge.

Hi. Thanks for your suggestion. The battery is brand new and voltage is 12v plus..I suspect the BCM module was unable to withstand a spike voltage during Battery changeover..

Hi MicMac. I have some good news finally to share here. While we were waiting for the BCM module which wud take months to arrive, my technician friend tried the steps mentioned by you with various variants..and it recovered when all the lamps were disconnected at the connector and the steps you mentioned were followed a few times. So far it’s working fine..almost a week now. Thanks a ton!

Well done and thanks for letting us know the outcome.
