Skoda Octavia 1.4TSI 2010 Shakes From Cold.

Featured Replies

Hello All,

I'm new to the Skoda realm and wondered if someone could help me.

Upon starting from cold, the car judders quite a bit... She also stays at around 1300rpm for about a minute.

Once she's done having a fit, she's fine and dandy (a bit like me without coffee in the morning) Is this normal for a 11 year old Octavia?

I've scanned and there was one code saying running rich on bank 1, I cleared it and it has not come back as of yet.

Should mention, if it's perhaps relevant she's done 155000 and has been recently serviced but to what extent I do not know as I just bought her with no history (A gamble I know)

Cheers,

D

Is this really from a cold start or a cold "warm" start (with slightly higher ambient temps).

This engine does a weird cat pre-heat with ambient temps of like 20c or above.

The exhaust can be loud and gurgly and the engine tends to jolt around a bit if you try to drive off.

That's because the valve timing is changed and I think an air pump or something runs I've read somewhere.

Hey Phil-E,

This is from a stone cold start for the engine (in terms of not driving it for 14h) . The jumping/shaking happens when parked up, to be fair it has been quite warm here in the UK so the ambient temp thing you've mentioned could make sense to my issue.

Yes! Exactly like that, though not so bad on the exhaust gargle for me. Okay, now I'm starting to make sense of it. Thank You! :)

Welcome.

Without knowing what the servicing has included it would be an idea to look in the Air Filter box and see what the filter looks like, as in clean or recently replaced.

At some point the spark plugs need checked since you do not know when changed.

At the very least the Brake Fluid needs checked for the water content and might well need changing.

Hey e-Roottoot, Don't worry I certainly will be doing this. She's due for an inspection/Mot not too long from now so will be getting a full service done at the same time, Just to err on the side of caution. I have checked all fluids already and all seem to be fairly clean and at the right levels.. Just need to check sparks and air filter.
