Steering noise while car warming up

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a 2015 Octavia MkIII and for quite a few months now I have picked up on a slight noise when I turn right such as going round a roundabout. The noise is difficult to describe but is sort of a quiet whine/whistle/possibly rubbing which disappears once the car has warmed up. I’ve had a look through many other posts on steering noises but can’t find anything which sounds similar. I would therefore welcome any thoughts on what it might be. Thanks.

Welcome.

Is this a right hand drive car, as in the UK?

What have you engine and gearbox wise and how many miles /km done?

Is it not as simple as corrosion on the disc when you start off, or maybe a dust shield touching.

Sorry, missed out some details there!

It’s a UK rhd 2.0 TDi manual with 43k miles. Discs are pretty new so no corrosion. It could be the dust shield.

It’s been serviced and MOT’d since I’ve had the noise but I didn’t ask the garage to look into specifically.

Thanks

I have had a rubbing noise on a couple of occasions from a stone jammed between the brake disc and the shield. First time it happened the garage charged £50 to dismantle the brakes as they were mystified as to the cause. Later learnt they can be jogged out by reversing fast and slamming the brakes on! There are forum posts on the subject.

Thanks. I’ll try and have a feel around but as the noise goes away once the car has been running for 5 mins or so I’m not sure that will be it. The remedy sounds like fun though!
