Problems with read-only files and folders.

Featured Replies

Over the last few evenings I'v ebeen WMA'ing my CD collection onto CD-R's. I've filled about 6 of them and have bought them to work to burn onto DVD-RW.

I've copied the fodlers from the CD-R's onto my C drive but when I try and drag onto the DVD-RW it says "Windows has encountered a problem trying to copy the folder"

The folders that came from the CD-R's are all read only, I change the properties and un-check read only then "Apply -> OK"

However, I go back into the folder properties and its still read-only.

I have burnt DVD-RW's in this drive before.

I have no specific burning software, just Windows.

ideas ?

All files on a burnt CD-R or DVD-RW will be shown as read only on the disc itself. Once they are copied to the hard drive you should be able to reset their attributes. This should have no affect on their ability to be burnt or copied to another disc.

It is possible that the problem is with the files themselves as I have experienced this when the filename was too long. Try to copy one or two folders at a time to check whether the basic burning process works and then add more until you discover which folder(s) or file(s) are causing the problem.

I just tried copying a text file to the same disc and it failed :( Updated the firmware in the drive and it failed again.

Dud disc I think.
