2016 definitely slave cylinder issue

Featured Replies

Hi, as above its the slave cylinder thats drawing in air n clutch fluid disappearing

Would this be covered by warranty ???

Thanks

I mean, youre gonna need to give a lot more detail than this... im gonna assume we are talking about the car in your bio, a 2016 octavia?

What warranty, manufacturer or aftermarket?

What mileage?

Chances are your car is well out of warranty so no chance. On top of that no one would consider a warranty based on your word, they will do their own diagnosis whether manufacturer or a garage.

You say youre loosing brake fluid, in which case im guessing youve located the leak, where is it and have you got any photos?

What makes you think something is drawing in air? not saying it isnt, just youve gave us the bare minimum to work with here

It's a skoda octavia vrs 2016, it has a 2 year warranty with west end skoda in Stirling.

Mileage is around 33k which is obviously pretty low for the car.

I'm going on the info from a friend who's a mechanic that's all..  apologies

Has he looked at the car in person and diagnosed it as that?

and what is the actual problem youre having with the car?

Also as its not the original vehicle warranty it may have different terms, often a slave cylinder whether brake or clutch may come under a servicable/fair wear and tear item. (Even though most would say it isnt)

But that is if it even is the problem

Yes, he looked at it last week n drained all the old clutch fluid which was pure black n put new clutch fluid in it, it was OK fir 2 days then yesterday I went to press depress the clutch n it went straight down with no pressure at all...

The diagnosis was his n 2 other mechanics diagnosis that hadn't seen the car

So the car has probably never had a fluid change before, this would invalidate the warranty immediately unless you can prove its been done when it should.

And are you saying the car was okay until your mechanic friend touched it and bled the clutch?

Also @Boabster I'd agree; also, I think that the issue is with the friend, not with WES.

It's had a service with West end skoda since we've had it so surely they would have checked n changed the clutch fluid as part of that service if required...no??

Did it only fail after your friend touched it?

if it’s not on the invoice from Skoda then no they wouldn’t of touched it and if you think they may of done it, why did you get your friend to do it just afterwards?

something isn’t adding up with this story. We ain’t trying to catch you out here, just want to help you fix the car

Only if explicitly asked. Also the clutch and brakes share a common fluid reservoir.

The OP did not say that fluid was leaking, but that air was being drawn into the system.

On the assumption that it is a concentric slave cylinder then I know 100% what the problem is and it will require the gearbox removing to replace the cylinder, in fact it could be repaired for less than a penny but nobody even myself with the nickname Chancer would do that.

Scroll through to where the photo in the link appears, there were several false leads in the initial part but the info may still be relevant.
