Coolant leak thermostat housing 1.4tsi

Featured Replies

Hi, my 1.4 tsi (czca) 2016 superb (79k miles) has started loosing coolant slowly. Google suggests thermostat housing and water pump area a common issue, and sure enough the diff housing below was a little damp, and has got crusty with pink crystals suggesting coolant on it. So am thinking will get thermostat housing changed. Anyone else had to do this? And guess it's worth a new water pump at same time? Have looked at the workshop manual and YouTube, and looks a little involved for a DIY job unfortunately! The timing belt is other end, and still looks like new so not considering changing that yet! Thanks

Not a 1.4TSi here but I had a coolant leak (very small / almost non-existent) on my 2.0TSi. My car went in for a routine service & the garage found a low coolant fault code in the ECU memory. I remembered topping up the coolant 6 months earlier & the reservoir level had not changed since. The garage (independent VAG specialist) explained that it was a fairly common issue on many VAG engines related to connected plastic / metal parts leaking due to differing expansion / contraction rates & water pump corrosion / bearing issues. They changed the pump, thermostat housing & thermostat with a revised set of factory parts in a kit which confirms it is a known issue. Be prepared for a big bill🤑.

My "routine / intermediate" service landed up costing £1,250 - & that's not main dealer pricing. New rear discs & pads were also included in my bill.

But wasn't the cambelt due at 5 years / 80k miles ?
