Superb satnav removal

Featured Replies

I need assistance from you helpful Briskodians. Now have 6 month old Superb elegance as well as Octy2. ( swimbo drives one) Trying to remove satnav to connect up telephone. Have only got as far as removing the "wood surround", ashtray, climate control and about a dozen or more screws. but short of borrowing tools from the local lowlife to gemmy it out, I seem to be stuck. What am I missing ?? (Apart from skin from my knuckles and a few brain cells !!)

The only bit of trim you might need to remove (I think you can do it without removing any trim) is the piece immediately around the nav unit itself, with the buttons for the rear screen de-mister and ESP etc, it just pulls straight off.

Then you need the VAG radio removal tool, or if your to tight to buy them like I am, 4 long thin pieces of metal to insert in the four tiny slits at each corner of the nav unit, move these up or down to release the unit.

Thanks for info Johnjohn. I have tried all morning but still got nowhere. Various thin metal strips got no result. I will probably have to go to the dealers and get a look at the tool to get a better idea what I need. However your info about the thin slots was useful as I hadnt notoiced them before.

The (sometimes) friendly chaps a Halfords might pop it out for you, it only takes seconds once you know how to do it! (or at the very least they should sell you the correct tool to do it).

I could post you my keys as long as I get them back?

And you need four of them.

Thanks to all who contributed for your help. Have eventually got the job done. Went as suggested to Halfords and wish I had done that at first. Had to partly pull foreward the whole frame and could see that my digging around without the right removal tools had damaged two of the clips.

Strange, by frame I assume you mean the cage that a car stereo normally sits in?

The nav unit doesn't have a cage, it just pushes straight into the dash? on mine it does anyway!

Glad you got it sorted anyway.

Neither does mine!!

The Frame that I referred to is the whole assembly that supports the radiosatnav, along with the climate control and also the ashtray. The whole "frame" had to be pulled foreward slightly to get at the sides of the radio asm. The most worying part of this is that now, two radio selection buttons on the left side dont work. The scan up/down button has also failed so I will have to repeat the whole proceedure to get the unit out and examine it for damage. As if that wasnt bad enough my main PC has just failed and will have to be reloaded !! What next ?

Sorry to hear this mate but there is always something around the corner to mess things up!!
