Starter problem

Featured Replies

I just want to impart some advice to anyone having starter problems.

My Skoda Fabia 2016 Automatic did not start with the starter button.  I called out my local garage and he came to try to fix it.

I left him with the car and looked up on the internet for the fault.  It said to try replacing the key fob battery which I did even though I had not been told it needed replacing.

Hey Presto - It Worked!   It saved me a long wait in the cold waiting for a recovery vehicle..  I hope this helps someone.

We had a similar problem with SWMBO's 2018 Fabia 3.

When attempting to start the car, this error message appeared on the MaxiDot display:

Key not detected. Hold key next to marked surface. Owners manual!

The correct battery is CR2025. In the absence of these, a CR2032 was used. The battery diameter is the same, but the thickness is 3mm less. The substitute battery is not a perfect fit, but it does work.

The key batteries are rated at 3v. Voltage in the key batteries were 3.04v and 3.01v. The new / unused C2032 were 3.73v.

In theory, there was no reason why the keys should not have worked with the old batteries. However, a change of batteries restored keys back to normal function.

Please note - I am not a mechanic or expert in anything.

The 2025 is 20mm diameter and 2.5mm deep (2032 is 20mm x 3.2mm).

The figures you get for a 3v button battery (or 12v car battery) depends on the instrument you are using to measure them you can get a lot of varying figures and very cheap multimeters I've found not to be too good or last reliably beyond the 12 month warranty.  My multimeter reads optimistically but I think yours might be even more so.

Also battery doesn't work as well when its cold or very cold.

The battery to my wife's remote was fine used at home but next day at her work when it was colder the battery wasn't and using the keyblade opens the driver's door but the alarm goes off, very annoying.
