Reversing camera not working after software update

Featured Replies

I recently had the car in at the main dealer and they upgraded the infotainment to version 0480 in an effort to resolve an intermittent crashing issue.

However, after doing so my reversing camera is no longer working. I installed the third-party Sinosmart camera as per the linked thread below a couple of years ago - this was plug and play with no issues.

I've checked the harness, connections etc and they all look fine. Following the advice of someone in the same thread, I pulled infotainment fuse 12 with no luck.

Any ideas on what to try from here would be gratefully received.

Critical point marked up in bold-face I think. You appear to be expecting VAG to deliver software that will just plug and play with non-VAG hardware.

This is the issue with aftermarket reverse cameras.

Whatever they do to the infotainment to make them ‘work’ is a secret so chances are it can’t be fixed with any tools.

unless there is some way to ‘reset’ the camera to factory defaults and try again.

Maybe contact the seller to see if they have an suggestions

personally I’d recommend and always have done that you get a genuine camera fitted and have it correctly coded and calibrated using odis and SVM.

Solution in case anyone searches this issue in the future and comes across this thread:

Contacted the seller on AliExpress who sent a replacement camera unit for $20 USD (no harness, camera only). Plugged new camera directly into harness in and it re-coded the infotainment system and worked as expected. Unplugged and reconnected the original camera which now works as per usual, just like a stock one.

It seems that the original camera lost whatever it does to re-code the infotainment and the new one was required to do this bit. Original camera working is a win in that I didn't have to take the boot trim off to replace the boot latch again.
