growling vibrating noise from my superb

Featured Replies

Hi...I am getting a noise from my superb dsg 2.0td estate and was just wodering if anyone else has experienced it. it seems to be getting louder and is very annoyiong now. The noise appears when accelerating from low revs and sounds like a cross between a growl and a vibrating Have just had a new flywheel replaced and dsg box serviced and asked them to have a look to see if there was anything and they said no. Please help as its driving me crazy. the car has 153000 miles on it and apart from this noise it drives great.

1st thing I'd check are tyres, wheel bearings, CV joints

Swap tyres front to rear with good visual inspection and check with hand for abnormal wear (sawtoothing). While wheels are off inspect suspension and drive shafts look for cv boot damage. Check drive shafts for end play as well as rotational play. Finally with wheels up in the air, check wheel bearings, one hand gripping spring mid way and rotate wheel with other, checking for vibration at spring

Is it a 4x4? In which case the prop shaft support bearing and the Haldex, drive shafts, CV joints needs checking.

Thanks.....no its not a 4x4 just 2lt tdi auto. Had cam belt and water pump replaced before xmas and mechanic said something about the clutch on the alternator is going !!!! Never herad of that before.

Also.....sometimes the revs are on 1000rpm when idling at lights or junction......I think he said something about its the calternator.

Alternator one way clutch causes squawking and squealing usually, the tell-tale sign is the auxiliary drive belt flapping back and forth on the longest unsupported length.

1000 rpm idle can be a DPF regen or during the warm up period in very cold weather.
