dimming aftermarket HU display when lights are on?

Featured Replies

Another aftermarket HU problem:rolleyes:

I installed a sony headunit which has quite a bright display but I drove at night for the first time in ages and its a bit distracting. I thought that its supposed to dim when the lights are switched on but nothing happens. Have i missed something? Does anybody elses not change when the lights are on?

Thinking about it the standard unit actually lights up when the main lights are on so maybe the signals need changing.

My old Sony had to have the setting for Dimmer changed to "Auto" but that was fitted in a Vauxhall.

My current JVC doesnt dim in the Octavia though :(

There is a wire for auto-dimming on the Sony HU.

That needs a 12v +ve feed when the lights are on which I believe it should get from the standard loom

Looking on Stu's site where he details the pin outs on the ISO connectors I think its pin 6 on the black socket. On the Sony installation leaflet this contact is labeled as 'switched illumination power supply'. Is this correct?

But managed to pull the head unit to look today and saw no wiring on the HU loom for this pin. And looking on ebay they all seem to have this particular wire missing, this isnt right!

So i know what pin it is on the ISO end of the loom but does anybody know which socket i'd need to wire to on the Sony connector end?

Thinking about wiring it up myself.
