Loss of horsepower

Featured Replies

Hey guys.

I bought a Skoda Octavia 2019 150 hp 1.5 tsi a couple months ago thats driven 136.000km and quickly after felt a loss of power when accelerating hard. Had it to a tuner a week ago to get a stage 1 tune to see if it helped. We put it on a rolling field before the tune, and it showed 132 HP and 232 nm only (should have 250nm from factory). We tuned it and it went up to 150 HP and 269nm, but he said the tune should give 180 HP and 320nm. The acceleration is alot smoother now tho..

He tried to diagnostig the issue of the power loss with a tester, and told me to buy new NGK spark plugs because it showed alot of errors from the cylinders, and said that would probably fix it and bring it to 320 ish nm. I changed them yesterday, but still dont feel the change. The airfilter looks good too.

My question is - does the engine just lose that much power over time, can it be something else I need to look for, or is it just because its showing WHP on the rolling field?

Thanks beforehand.

Then get a full code scan done...the CANBUS network will tell you if there is an issue.

Might, or could well tell you.

Its not the Canbus network that detects and records fault codes, it is the individual controllers which can be interrogated by a fault code reader plugged into the OBDII port communicating with them via the Canbus network.

Welcome to the forum.

Had the car been one that was part of the Recall for Lack of Torque so given the Software Update previously.?

?

Had the car / engine had the Cam Belt replaced before you got it?    Maybe not required, but if done easily messed up.

?

Is it a 1.5 TSI ACT, and is it a DSG rather than a manual?

If a DSG what gear was  it in when the Dyno runs were being done?

???

What was the car running & what is it running now remapped.  Unleaded 95 ron, or Super Unleaded 97,98,99, 100 or 100+?

I'd have first started with a diagnostic, not uncommon for coil pack failures on that engine, as well as plugs.

I have a the same engine on a 19 plate (my second Octavia with this engine), now covered 64k, still feels like new, no power loss that I can tell of, dsg still A1, very smooth in all gears Engine doesn't lose any oil between changes, smooth when hot or cold. My car happily runs on 95 ron fuel, any type. Although I have treat it to the odd tank of premium fuel, too.

Does your car start OK from cold?
