Retrofit Cruise Control

Featured Replies

Hello, I'm new to this forum.  I'd just like to say that my username is a reflection on my age and not the car!

I am new to Skoda although not to VW's.  I am looking at buying a nice one owner 2012 SE DSG with 24,000 miles and a Skoda history for my daughter.  One of her deal breakers is cruise control for the longer journeys because of some medical issues.  I have read all the cruise control threads I can find but most seem to deal with earlier or different models.  So my questions are does this model have the combined central electrics and comfort (bcm) module or the separate units?  I believe they are combined in one by this year but I don't know where they are situated.

Has anyone done this mod on a 2012?  This car appears to be well spec'd with A/C and other things so I'm hoping that the current cent elec will support cruise control.  I have genuine VCDS so the coding part will be ok for me.  Last 2 questions, does cruise control cause any problems working with DSG?  Lastly, does anyone have any links for the switches and loom for this model?  Thanks for any tips or links you are able to provide. :)

It will have the combined unit; I think March 2010 saw the last of the separate central convenience control units in Roomsters.

@Tech1e almost certainly knows the answers to your other queries.

If you message me the VIN I could look up which BCM part number it has, if that's any help.

It was possible to retrofit but Skoda discontinued the retrofit kits. I've not found anyone else making the wiring harnesses.

Hmm, how many connectors, pins, wires...?

Thanks @breezy_Pete  I can't get the VIN because I haven't actually bought it yet but I must admit this throws up another concern.  Availability of parts for a slightly less common car like the Roomster does worry me.  I've kept my old Transporter van going for twenty years since new so I do like to keep them until they really do die!  The loom seems to have a dedicated plug which makes it awkward to make up.

I'm seeing signs of availability (on partslink24) on kits suited to Roomies built on or after 28/05/2012, is the one you're looking at a 12-reg or 62?

If the latter there's a decent chance it was built after that date.

Sorry, but cross-checking those part numbers against what's on offer at LLL parts suggests they're gone too. ☹️

Have you @Rheumy got an image of the connector involved? May well be able to still buy that?

No connector plug on the harnesses. The cruise control loom just has the terminals to plug into the BCM, the stalk connector, and the engine control unit.

It is possible to make one, but by the time you have got the terminals, the labour of making the harness, the stalks (£130), no one would pay it.

I've fitted plenty of them in the past.

Thank you for your help Pete and Tech1e.  I'm only going by what I can see online.  This one (loom only) is available in Europe and has a couple of connector plugs included but it is for a 6v chassis.  Is that right for a 2012 (and it is a 12 plate 4 cylinder turbo103 PS Pete btw)   What chassis should I be looking for?   It does sound a bit of a shame that Skoda is starting to delete these Roomster parts. 😟   My daughter likes the idea of the space for her small electric wheel chair but perhaps we should be looking at a Yeti?  (Although, aren't they now obsolete too?)

@Tech1e Do you happen to know the correct Skoda part number of the kit I need?  Even though it's deleted.  That way I might do better with my searching.

They aren't deleting all parts. When they get accessory kits made up they will purchase the items and make so many thousands of those kits. When they run out they will re-evaluate the requirement for the kits and weigh it up against predicted sales. The Roomster has been out of production for a number of years and I can imagine the number being sold now by main dealers is pretty small, so not worth them doing it.

That looks like it would be suitable.

Cheers that's really helpful. 👍   If this nice looking little car is still there after the week end I might just go for it.  But I'm not paying more than 7 grand maximum for a 12 year old Roomster however good it is so if he won't come down to that then someone else can have it!

Sounds sensible. I paid £500 for mine lol

I enquired about the loom, no UK stock and not on UK price file.

Thanks for that. 👍   So no Skoda stock but perhaps the one in the German link might work?  I must admit I've been looking at Fabia estates because of the rarity of good low mileage Roomsters.  At least more Fabias seem to already have cruise control.
